Hello I am Alok Singh Solanki and the person behind many blogs and businesses which led you to check my About page.
Let's talk about the WORK First and then something Personal if you like to read more.
Talking of Work is not easy in India, Work is what people identify you with.
"How are you ? is not the second line in India once you greet, instead ask "So What do you do ?" emphasis on Sooooo what...
sometimes I fell disgusted but some time I get a false pride in replying to this usual bizarre
"I Am in IT".
I always get two things in return when I reply "I Am in IT."
First A Big Smile and second couple of questions in form of affirmative statements.
1. "So where did you book your flat", and my response is always golden SILENCE but back of my mind I say ***BC EMI quan Bharenga, tuu. Aur Downpayment???? lets not talk***
2. Some more frequent questions or statement they make.
"kamai tohh bohout Hongi" on face I always reply "haan" and in mind "mera meryy par chood dey yaar"
3 . The professional ear eaters will end the annoying game with a sentence. "Humarey betey nee bhi Computer mein addmission liya hai". Which means they need your opinion on their stupidity that too when the act is already committed. My advice - Don't give any advice!!!
These questions are always due to the brain mapping of -Me by Them- as a rich IT professional with loads of cash in bank. Trips to foreign land including Vegas trip and couple of flats in my name.
Trust Me, this sucks and is complete opposite situation with me. I will post every details of my current financial situation in coming posts. Till then keep reading.
Today I wish "I Am in IT" was not my answer of choice 🙁 and I have a reason. and i have thought a lot on the 3rd question, should your near and dear take up IT as career.
Information Technology Job is not a UNIQUE profession in India anymore. Thousands of new graduates are ready to enter this industry Every month. Yes Every Month!!!
Monthly 2 to 3 Lac NEW engineers and graduates are ready to take up IT job if they get a chance To.
BE, B Tech's engineering colleges are most sought after with IT recruiters. Reason quoted by recruiters is always same "They have high reasoning skills". No offence but this is BS.
BCA's, MCA's, B.Sc & M.Sc Computer Science graduates are also hired at par with engineers. This is to keep the salaries in check.
Then there are some more to add up from polytechnic colleges (I am one of them). They don't count unless they do the Engineering degrees or do a system bypass like AMIE.
Count the NIIT's and Aptech's Training B.A. and B.Com Graduates lining up for the same job queue as BE's. and they do get selected. My wife is a Doctor by Degree and a post Grad in Management. Yet she never fails to mention her NIIT credentials when required. [Competition ghar par bhi :).]
Bonus we get BPO folks, who also enjoy IT tag and get a lateral entry to IT. All thanks to the English speaking skills which are rarely present in the crowd with Degree.
This is how we get at-least 50 Lac (5 million) new people added to IT job market yearly. Little over any island nation.
Think of last 10-15 years or even 25 years, the time Indians started dominating the IT space.
I am random guessing that the IT workers population of INDIA in 2019 would stand at no less than 8 to 9 crores.
So Answer is out for third question - No more IT for Average students, leave it for geeks to change the world.
Hurrah!!! This was not the case when I joined IT industry back in 2004. "My first IT job" this is a unique story, kind of unbelievable types. I will write an entire post on how I got "My first IT job". But for for now let me tell you I got into IT job with no engineering degree or diploma. (I did not have the Diploma yet and "I was trying to clear my final year backlog in Maths for 3 years" Polytechnic).
Little knowledge of Unix Operating Systems and good English speaking = US Technology Job. That is how made it here 🙂
In first Job I got a package 1.4 lacs plus perks on performance.
First month of my Job December 2004. Salary INR 13k in hand.
NOW back to 2019
It's been 14 years and now I have diploma to flash and couple of certification to call myself a Project Manager. With experience and 4 company switch my salary has grown to One Lac per month.
Big Question :
Next Switch in Job = Hike in Salary.
One lac would sound a huge number and you may think this is good. I say no, there are IT folks whom I know are earning stupendous amount. Like 2-3 lac by being in right organization at right time with right skills. I wanted to be their and you may too. But it takes lot of things which we will discuss in my podcast " Well To Do IT Jobs"
I wish to help myself in reaching those heights fast and also help other on the way.
Yes there are people who are struggling to get their first 10K or 20K and we will help them as well. I have coached 2 of my acquaintances to go from 15K to 50K in less than 11 months. Listen to them in the podcast episode 2 - "Breaking the Barriers"
People of my age in India live a comfortable lifestyle if they earn what I am earning today. Still I struggle every month with money. To solve this problem I am consulting and speaking to many people with resources. I promise to share every tip and trick I learn with you soon.......
